History

The Lehigh Valley Railroad Station has served Ithacans since 1885. On February 4, 1961, train #609 was the last to pass through Ithaca. We've stopped the hands of the clock on our service plates at 6:09 to commemorate that final train.

In 1965, Joe Ciaschi bought the railroad station building and converted it to a restaurant. The platform between the main station and the cars was enclosed and the dining cars and engine were placed on the original tracks in 1970.

In the Summer of 1998, 2 of the dining cars were converted to beautiful private sleeper cars. The renovation was completed in September and we now offer overnight accomodations by the day, weekend or week in 3 luxuriously recreated sleeper cars; each with it's own private entrance and private full bath.

Just outside the entrance to the restaurant you will see an eighteen foot Seth Thomas clock from Sayre, PA. The clock is over fifty years old and keeps time accurately when wound every eight days. There is also an authentic scale placed as it was many years ago.

In the main building is the waiting room, now used as our main dining room where you will find chandeliers from the dining room of the Ithaca Hotel. The benches are from the original waiting room.

The rest rooms still have the old marble partitions and hardware which we slavaged and used. The tile floor is original.

The Station's interior was designed by Lovelace-Steele Associates of Syracuse. Victor Bagnardi was The Station's consulting architect. The Sleeping Cars were designed by architect Claudia Brenner and V. Romanoff and Associates.

The Station Restaurant and Sleeping Cars is now run by Joe's son, Terry Ciaschi, who personally manages both the restaurant and the sleeping cars.
